Red Earth Ghawazee are a troupe of tribal style bellydancers from the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges in Melbourne, Australia. Since forming in 2003 Red Earth Ghawazee have performed at many festivals and functions across Australia. Our name comes from the Wurundjeri word Mooroolbark - meaning red earth.
Through our performances and classes we bring to our audience and students, the joy, the drama, the excitement, that is Tribal Bellydance and inspire others to enjoy and learn this contemporary style of bellydance.
Our style of dance is based on American Tribal Style Bellydance which was created in America 20 years ago (Fat Chance Belly Dance is a great place to look for more information).
Red Earth Ghawazee are proud to be the first sister studio in Victoria to the creator of ATS, Carolena Nericcio's FatChance Bellydance of San Franciso.
American Tribal Style is a fusion of different styles and regional influences and continues to change and evolve.
Tribal Bellydance is largely a group improvisational style of bellydance. Using simple steps, gestures and cues in a repetitive fashion, building on the music and interaction between the dancers.
Our costumes reflect elements adopted from many cultures combined with our own unique additions. They do not represent any particular country and you will not find them anywhere in the world. You can find our pictures in the gallery.
If you would like us to perform at your next function or event, please contact us to discuss your requirements.
